The building, in an eastern German village called 'Nechlin', was a typical un-renovated building in the countryside. The private owners decided to renovate it into an energy-efficient building instead of demolishing it. The whole building was insulated and the energy system is now based on 100% renewable energy with nearly all roof areas being covered by solar systems. The south-west-oriented facade is equipped with photovoltaic shading elements, on the one hand as fixed louvers over the windows, on the other hand with innovative 'Solar Window Shutters', which can be opened or closed in accordance to the users need.
